Mission
What makes the Gold Coast Neighbors Association such a special organization? It’s our strong sense of community, our rich history, and the way we work together to keep our community safe, vibrant, and welcoming. We carry out our mission in the following ways:
Foster a Strong and Connected Community
We bring neighbors together through events, engagement, and family-friendly programming.
Enhance Neighborhood Safety
We prioritize safety through our dedicated Safety Patrol, advanced safety technology and equipment, and close collaboration with elected officials and law enforcement.
Preserve and Celebrate Our History
We honor the history of the Gold Coast and its significant architecture through educational events and tours of historically significant buildings.
Promote Responsible Development
We guide and monitor new construction and development to ensure alignment with the character and standards of our historic neighborhood.
Support Community Improvement Projects
We collaborate with local organizations like the Lincoln Park Conservancy to enhance and renew shared public spaces.
Maintain and Beautify Public Parks
We organize volunteer clean-up efforts to preserve the beauty and accessibility of Goudy Park, Lincoln Park, and other green spaces.
History
Shortly after its founding, the boundaries of its footprint expanded and in the mid-1980 additional streets were added. Since its founding, GCNA has prioritized community building, neighborhood beautification, and advocacy, later addressing zoning concerns and enhancing safety. Our inaugural fundraiser, Evening on Astor, debuted on September 13, 1982, and has since become a beloved tradition. Our second major event, Toast to the Coast, has continues to be an elegant, unforgettable evening.
Over the years, Gold Coast Neighbors Association has held countless events, provided volunteer opportunities, and successfully supported our neighbors and partners to preserve the residential and historic feel of one of the greatest neighborhoods in the world.
