Learn to create outdoor soundscapes through easy-to-learn games, have the opportunity to learn or improve your guitar playing, and hear duets performed by two accomplished professionals.
Zhivko Nikolov and Ric Larsen will lead off this multi-part event with free, one-on-one guitar lessons for some lucky attendees, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Percussionist and educator Josh Jones will guide participants in learning and performing Make Music Chicago’s specially commissioned “Flowerpot Music” composition in its debut performance in Goudy Park. He will direct this section of the program from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. It was created for a surprising, but beautiful, percussion instrument, the flowerpot.
Nikolov and Larsen will move from giving individual guitar lessons to performing a duet together from 5:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Their musical choices will be a surprise, but sure to delight the audience.
This special event is open to both musicians and nonmusicians of all ages. Flowerpots and sticks, also called mallets, will be provided, subject to availability. You are also welcome to bring your own favorite flowerpot and sticks. Also, consider adding blankets and a picnic to expand the enjoyment of this unique and delightful program. You might also want to bring your sense of humor, which is not required but highly recommended.
